What is a Chamber
of Commerce?
The Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit association established
to further the interests of businesses in the community. Funded
by membership
investments, the Chamber is not affiliated with town government,
nor is it accountable to any other organization. A Chamber works
for a healthy economic climate of good jobs, capital creation
and honest, efficient government.
A Chamber's strength lies in the number and diversity
of its membership. Because a Chamber collectively embodies the
vast exposure of the many businesses and professionals in its
membership, it has the knowledge and insight to identify issues
of importance to the business community and the combined means
to devise and implement strategies to address them.
What does a Chamber
of Commerce do?
A Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of its membership, in a spirit
of cooperation with the plan and philosophy of economic development
set forth by the community. The programs of the Chamber are designed
to positively address those community factors which affect economic
development: local government, transportation, education, environment,
culture, health care services, employment, etc. In addition,
the Chamber may seek to act or make recommendations in response
to problems or conditions that threaten the economic well-being
of the area it serves.
The Chamber of Commerce represents business and professional
interests before elected bodies. Ordinances, legislation, and
regulations affecting business and the economic climate are addressed
by Chambers on the local, state, and national level.
